Tēnā koutou katoa. Welcome to our new families that have started with us this term, our school role is healthy and continues slow but steady growth. We are receiving enrolments for 2023, with a number of students starting school as new entrants, and others joining us at Year 7 for their intermediate years. If you know of friends, family, or neighbours that have young children, please encourage them to complete our ‘expressions of interest’ form on the school website.
I have been speaking to our senior students this month about adjustments. In our journey through life it is important to pause, reflect, and make adjustments as we continue to strive towards ‘Tā mātou pai ake; Our Best Always’. A focus at the moment is setting goals, working hard, caring for others and our environment, and exercising self control. We also have a school wide focus this term on Consideration; Whai Whakaarotanga.
Our senior school began The Resilience Project at the start of this term to support wellbeing. We are anticipating extending this further into the school for 2023. The programme has a cost of $18 per student but we believe is a powerful approach for shaping student mindset and personal and mental health.
The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs and provides evidence-based, practical strategies to build resilience through the key pillars of Gratitude, Empathy & Mindfulness.

Looking ahead to 2023, we have Denise Coker, previously the Team Leader of Senior School, and Leanne Hale, previously the Team Leader of Junior School who have both chosen to step back into teaching roles, and relinquish their leadership positions to focus on family and work/life balance. The Board and I are currently working through a review of our school leadership and responsibilities to build a strong team into 2023. We will soon advertise for an external full time Year 7 and 8 teacher to join the team, as a senior school leader.
New Board Members
Our Board met last night and welcomed new members, Matt Noel, Daniel Gartshore, Maria Shoebridge, and Michaela Paterson. We thanked Duane English, and Celia Grant, for their service to the school, as they concluded their time on the board and shared some advice for incoming board members. Sarah Paterson, Kathy Snodgrass, Caroline Back, and myself, continue on the board. This is a healthy balance of new faces, and existing members - the school is well positioned to retain and extend our vision for Learning, Values, Community.
“Our aim by the end of Year 8, with a focus on equity and excellence, is to develop ‘can-do’ kids who demonstrate the cornerstone values and self-manage as they give their best always, to achieve highly, as confident and friendly communicators and effective thinkers.”
