At our Monday morning student check-in we continued the theme we’ve been talking about this term - if we put in good ingredients, we can bake something that’s good to eat. If we rush it, leave ingredients out, throw in random stuff, and then over or under cook it - the result is pretty average. We’ve been asking students to think about ‘what are you putting into the mix every day?’. To bring out the best in yourself, and the best in the school, then the ingredients you put in every day matter… goal setting, responsibility, respect, kindness, manaaki, encouragement.
I told the students my unfortunate story that over the weekend, some baking had been done at my place and when I came to help with the clean up, there were white sprinkles all over the bench and floor. Naturally I was helping with the clean up - and had some on my hands. Turns out that it wasn’t sugar, it was dishwashing powder. It only took one small lick of a finger and there was no amount of mouth rinsing to be done that would take the taste away!
Just a small sprinkle of unhelpful decisions can make a drastic difference to the cake! We are really proud of the effort and attitude students are putting into their schoolwork. They are baking some awesome progress with mathematics especially (which is our focus this year). As we look towards the last week of school - please remind your child as we are to keep putting in their Best Always ingredients. Tā mātou pai ake!
EPro8 - Science, Engineering, and Mathematics
In this newsletter you will find the photos I took during our EPro8 activities here at school. I was delighted to see the number of students that signed up for the internal competition and the engineering, design, and mathematics they used to solve the challenges. Congratulations to the Techno Builders for the success through the interschool competition and into the semi finals. Special mention to Baz and Kayden who designed a prototype fishing rod and attempted to reel in some fish, and Brooklyn, Charlie, and Olive who while I was distracted troubleshooting a complex electrical circuit with Olivia, managed to construct the perfect child sized horse jump for a mid session fitness routine.
