Well done to the following ex Kaharoa children for their success in their sports:
BOPSS Table Tennis singles and doubles championships were held recently in Tauranga and we had 12 boys competing. They had to face some very tough opposition and displayed some amazing skills. An enjoyable day, the teams played with passion and enthusiasm. Overall results:
Division 2 Junior Singles – Ashton McGarvie 3rd place
Annelyse Cowie (14 yrs) has recently returned from the New Zealand Short Course Swimming Championship in Auckland. Annelyse raced five events. She placed 6th in New Zealand in 200 metres Breaststroke, and was in the Open Age ‘C’ Final. She also placed 7th in 400 metres Individual Medley – one of the toughest races where she knocked two seconds off her time. Annelyse placed 10th in 100m Breaststroke.
Over Labour Weekend two Western Heights High School swimmers were part of the Swim Rotorua team at the Central North Island Championship. Not only did they perform very well individually, but they also were integral to Swim Rotorua winning the Top Club Trophy and $1,000. Annelyse Cowie (14 yrs) won the girls 14-15 yr age group 100 and 200 metres Breaststroke. She was also second in the 50m breaststroke and 3rd in the 50m and 100m butterfly races. These were outstanding results. Annelyse was also part of the Open age women’s relay teams who placed second in both relays.
Damon (16yrs) was returning to competition after an injury and it was great to have him back as a leader on the team. Damon won the 16 & over 200m butterfly and placed 3rd in the 1500m freestyle.
