Cricket - Geyser Challenge Cup

posted: Wed, December 12, 2018

Kaharoa School was recently invited by Geyser City Cricket to enter a team and additional players to make up a composite team to compete in an inaugural 8 aside, four team, cricket competition to be played on Thursday nights throughout November. The other Schools involved were John Paul College and Mokoia Intermediate.

Each of the three schools got to host a round on special portable, artificial pitches and all four teams played at the same venues on the same nights.

At the end of the month the teams played off for 1st and second and third and fourth respectively at the International Stadium in front of a small but supportive crowd.

The Kaharoa team consisting of all but two cricket beginners made a strong showing losing only to the very strong Mokoia team. The composite team finished third and so Kaharoa completed a very strong beginning for a group of first year players. We hope that some of these boys and girls go onto greater things in the future and stay with the game.

Special thanks must go to Tony Lund for his support, providing sponsorship in the form of transport and food for the BBQ at Kaharoa and in a wide variety of other ways. Thanks also to Sam Lund for managing the composite team and to the parents for their wonderful support and also huge thanks to Rick Merrington for organising this battle of the schools.
