Aquatic Weed Spraying - Rotorua Lakes

Aquatic Weed Spraying is scheduled to be undertaken over the next couple of weeks around Rotorua Lakes. Spraying successfully took place today (Monday, 25 Nov) at Lake Rotoiti and is scheduled for Lake Rotorua (Kawaha Point) and Lake Okareka (Acacia Bay) tomorrow (Tues, 26 Nov). It is recommended that there be a 24 hour stand-down on swimming, fishing or taking water for irrigation or domestic supply once the spraying is complete at each site.

Weed control was successfully completed today, Monday 25th of November at the following sites.

Lake Rotoiti

  1. Gisborne Point
  2. Cherry Bay/Okahutoroa Bay
  3. Otaramarae Boat Ramp
  4. Okere Inlet
  5. Okere Inlet / Campground
  6. Kakaho Bay
  7. Te Ti Bay

This work will be carried out via boat based boom spraying using the herbicide diquat in gel form.

It is recommended that there be a 24 hour stand-down on swimming, fishing or taking water for irrigation or domestic supply once the spraying is complete. This stand down period will end at 1400 Tuesday, 26 November.

Spraying scheduled to take place for Tuesday, 26 November will be at Lake Rotorua (Kawaha Point) and Lake Okareka (Acacia Bay).

3. Lake Rotoiti Cherry Bay/Okahutoroa Bay

4. Lake Rotoiti Otaramarae Boat Ramp

5. Lake Rotoiti Okere Inlet

6. Lake Rotoiti Okere Inlet / Campground

7. Lake Rotoiti Kakaho Bay

8. Lake Rotoiti Te Ti Bay

9. Lake Rotoma Whangaroa Bay Boat Ramp

10. Lake Rotoma Matahi Boat Ramp

11. Lake Rotorua Kawaha Point

12. Lake Tarawera Humphries Bay

13. Lake Tarawera Hot Water Beach

14. Lake Okareka Acacia Bay

Work is scheduled to start from Monday, 25th November this work may continue intermittently until Friday 6th December. This work is dependent on suitable weed, water and weather conditions and is subject to change.
