Congratulations to all the children who represented Kaharoa School at the Interschool Chinese Speech Competition on Friday. We had our best results ever at this event. Thank you to Mu Haiting for her work with the children. This is a tough competition so the children can be proud of their efforts. Results were
Well done to Ty Jackson, Kobe Stranks-Rose, Hunter Weaver and Fletcher Sefton for winning for Ngongotaha the U12 final. All played well in a fast-paced game with lots of ball being distributed out to the wings from a strong forward effort. The play of the game was a pass on his 10-metre mark, just after half time, from Ty down the blindside to his wing who used his pace to score. Congratulations also to Rome Beazley whose U9 team won their final.
Congratulations to the children who represented Kaharoa School in the Spelling Bee. This was a tough competition with all children acquitting themselves well. The junior team of Cayden, Yiyang, Jessica and Ezra achieved second place after a close call when ashore was accepted over assure after the quizmaster hadn’t defined the word. Exciting stuff! Thank you to these children and Baylee, Elspeth, Fletcher, Jessica and Sulis for you ‘Can Do Kid - Give it a Go’ attitude.
Congratulations to past pupil Zak Swift. BA - Bachelor of Arts, BCOM - Bachelor of Commerce
We would like to say a huge Thank You to Rob Grant, Kiara Lee’s grandfather, who so kindly donated a beautiful, hand-made puppet theatre to our school. What a wonderful addition to Room Matai, which no doubt will provide many hours of fun and creative play for the children!
I enjoyed an exciting game of basketball last night at the Sportsdrome. The level of teamwork, skill, and determination shown by the children was exciting to see. This team was only formed this year and their hard work and effort have seen them improve massively. Thank you to Julian and Carol for coaching the boys. The boys have a great role model in Julian who would have been one of the most determined riders when riding professionally and showing such a commitment to his coaching responsibilities having only flown in from France yesterday. A great example for the boys to aspire to. MORE NEWS ADDED THIS WEEK BELOW
A huge thank you goes to Kobe’s parents, Tania Stranks and Warrick Rose for the kind donation of Richie McCaw’s signed All Black rugby shirt to our school! The framed shirt is an absolute gem and currently on display at the Kokako Centre. It will be auctioned off at a suitable event in the not too distant future, so keep checking this space for an update on when and where this will happen.
We would like to say a big Thank You to Russell & Jackie Cowie and staff for looking after the wild cat (“Thunder”) that turned up at school last term. The care and treatment was provided free of charge and meant we now have a healthy and friendly school cat. Please support Central City Vets!
The children had a great time at our first Kaharoa School Agrikids afternoon. We expect with a bit of tweaking this will become a regular part of our Lamb, Calf, Kid and Chicken Day event. A huge thank you to Jacqui English for organising the event on behalf of the PTA. Thank you also to Alistair Coatsworth, Brendon Conwell, Claire Austin, Tony Thaugland, Andy Gifford and Phil Rivers. Mr Thaugland also wanted me to thank his helpers – Elspeth, Casey and Olivia.
