Celebrating 2020 Rotorua Young Achievers

posted: Tue, October 27, 2020

We have two past pupils named in the RECT 2020 Rotorua Young Achievers - congratulations to Sean Johnston and Jeremy Walshe!

Sean Johnston

Western Heights High School
Leadership, Academic, School and Community Service

Kia Ora my name is Sean Johnston, I am the Deputy Head Boy of Western Heights High School for 2020.

Over the past 5 years, I have been honoured to volunteer for the Kaharoa Kokako Trust, helping to maintain the track network and predator control operations. I enjoy volunteering for the trust as the work being done will ensure that future generations will have the opportunity to experience the haunting call of the Kokako.

I also lead the WHHS AV Media team (Heights Media), which produces videos and media content for the school. This role, while challenging, is very rewarding and has taught me a lot about leadership. I have had the privilege of being president and current vice president of Interact Club, where we fundraise to support charity. I am passionate about giving back to the community and giving fellow students the same opportunity.

Jeremy Walshe

Western Heights High School
Leadership, Sport, Cultural, School and Community Service

My name is Jeremy Walshe, and I’m a year 13 student at Western Heights High School.
I pride myself on my academic successes, but I also have many extracurricular hobbies, including equestrian, hockey and music. I like to interact with my community and doing things like volunteer work and helping run local equestrian events.

Next year I’m headed to Massey University to study Veterinary Science.
