Congratulations to our year 5/6 team (Wade, Bashy, Nicholas and Raahi) for making it through to the semi-finals last Friday. They came second out of 11 teams and are now qualified to enter the finals this Friday, 30 October.

​Congratulations to those children who represented Kaharoa School at the Big Sing in Tauranga and the Kahalele event in Hamilton. From observation and reports, all the children acquitted themselves well and performed exceptionally well. Thank you to Evelyn Falconer (Choir) and Megan Kusabs (Ukulele) for all the work you have done with the children and for getting them to such a high standard.

Just a reminder that in Terms 1 & 4, it is compulsory for all children to wear the Kaharoa School sun hat. These hats can be purchased from the school office at a price of $24. If you would like to buy a hat either pop into or email the office and we can fit a hat for your child. You can pay by cash or direct credit into the school bank account #12 3155 0189083 00. A reminder that we further strongly recommend that our students bring a rash top to school to wear when swimming in the pool.

Last Friday Room Kauri went for our first Forest Friday trip. The sun was out and we had a wonderful time exploring the forest and learning in the great outdoors. Some of us built huts, climbed trees, made mudslides, transformed into mountain climbers, and even mountain goats!

We would like to thank and acknowledge Southern Trust for their support of Kaharoa School, providing funding of $25,682.00 towards STEAM Learning.

Covid-19 meant the CBOP Cross Country event looked different this year with participating schools running their own timed events and sending in the results to Sport Bay of Plenty to collate. Congratulations to the following children who achieved places in the timed cross country competing against 12 other schools:

Congratulations to Leo English and the whole U12 Rotorua Rebels Waterpolo team who won gold in the BOP/Auckland/Waikato Under 12 Tournament over the holidays!

Our Beach Volleyball Court and BBQ Area was officially opened on Wednesday, 1 July. PTA and Board Member, Celia Grant gave a lovely speech (parts of which are reproduced below) introducing the facility and thanking all those who contributed to the project then current Kaharoa student Hunter Weaver and Councillor Fisher Wang cut the ceremonial ribbon and declared the Community Recreational Resource OPEN. Thank you very much to all who came to celebrate with us, in particular those who represented our supporters, both financial and those who donated materials, their time and energy in helping with construction. Well done to our 4-student World Vision Famine Team who together raised $620.00 to fight hunger and injustice in Malawi.

Congratulations to our past Kaharoa School Board Chair, Don Hammond, who has been elected as Board Chair to the New Zealand Centre for Gifted Children (NZCGC). Don’s (and wife Andrea’s) now grown-up children Rob, Isabel and Emily all attended Kaharoa School along with their Grandmother Ann Smith who worked as a valued staff member in our library.
